Bikes 4 Life - Ride to Silence the Violence
Jul 13 2008 - 2:00pm - 3pm
Oakland
Address: Lake Merrit, we begin the ride at the Playground
Cost: free

Ever heard of the Trunk Boiz, Scraper Bikes, Onefam, American Friends
Service Committee? Well you don't need to have. All you need to know is
that youth in East Oakland have come up with creative solutions to
address our country's overconsumption of oil with the new Scraper Bike
Movement! And Bikes 4 Life is hosting a ride around Lake Merritt to
promote a gun truce in Oakland. We'll be meeting at the Playground Area
of Lake Merritt at 2 PM. We're even looking for volunteers if you want
to get in deep. So bring your bikes (Scraper or not) and bring your
soul, and be a part of the movement!

Does any one actually think these kumbayah events really do anything to oppose gun violence? Have a good ride. If it makes you feel good. I think shaming the criminal leements may have more of a deterrent effect like after being convicted of a crime either made to stand with a sandwich board that says "I'm scum." Or made to clean up garbage in pink jumpsuits .

To each his own.

Fighting for more accountable city government would be a lot more effective. The last city administrator had close ties to criminal gangs, so it's not a big surprise that thugs had taken over our streets.
